Labor Day Muskie
Labor Day weekend 2018 proved to be something special.
We've been charting our "Top Ten" for 9-10 different species of fish caught by our guests since 2008. Five of the biggest ten Muskie we've seen in our time here were landed in late August and early September this year.
Ryan Schwartz comes here every fall with the Terry Meggitt group. In 2015 Ryan landed a 43 incher, in 2016 he landed a 43 incher and in 2017 he landed a 44 incher. (He has landed Muskie on several different lakes that make up the Cass Lake Chain of Nine Lakes.) He arrived this year hoping to break his own record. On August 29th of this year, Ryan boated a 45 inch Musky, his personal best. On September 1st, with the help of his fishin' buddy Ryan Meggitt (who landed a 39 inch Musky this fall), Ryan Schwartz boated a massive great looking 48 1/2 inch Musky. Oak Haven seasonal camper Jim Kohl boated a nice 45 1/2 inch Musky on September 7th. Bob Johnson landed a 44 incher (8-28-18) and Jim Jensen boated a 43 3/4 incher. (9-3-18)
In our bait shack, you can enjoy looking at 36 different 8" x 10" color photo's of some of the biggest fish (Muskie, Pike, Walleye, Crappies, Largemouth Bass) landed by Oak Haven guests, since Debbie and I have been owners here at Oak Haven. (2007) Make it a point to look at our Hall of Fame pictures in our bait shack, the next time you stay with us. It is an eye opening experience indeed.
Fall has yielded some other nice fish. Justin Dexheimer took the lead in our Top Ten Crappie Contest with the 14 1/8th incher he landed on 9-9-18. (Measured - mouth closed, tail squeezed) Justin also landed a 13 inch Crappie that day. Joseph Mejia Meggitt landed a 13 1/4 inch Crappie and a 10 1/8th inch Bluegill. His brother Jacob landed an 11 inch Rock Bass. Kathy Johanning also landed 10 1/8th inch Bluegill. Jean Anderson landed a 32 inch Northern Pike. Dean Lanners and Zach Lanners each landed a Pike over 30 inches. George Carlsen has landed many nice Perch including an 11 1/4 incher.
