Muskies in the Eagle River area continue to be active, even during cooling
spells. Bucktails run fast over weeds are the still the first choice for
tangling with the "big bruisers." One pattern change lately is the fact
that bigger bucktails seem to be catching more fish, over the smaller #5
Mepps. Another change in the muskie fishing has been the muskies'
willingness to go after crankbaits. Six to eight inch minnow style
crankbaits worked along weed edges are beginning to turn some fish.
Walleye action in the Eagle River area remains good. Fish 15 feet of water
or less in and around weeds. Small jigs tipped with minnows, leeches or
half a crawler will work. It's an all day bite, with early morning and late
evening peaks.
Northern are hitting strongly in the Eagle River area. Fish 10 feet of water
or less in and around green weeds. Use a spinner bait or minnow bait.
Mixed bag on sizes.
Smallmouth bass in the Eagle River area are locating in five to 15 feet of
water along break edges. Use three or four inch tubes, or a four inch
Senko, rigged whacky. Good to excellent action.
Largemouth bass are locating in 10 feet of water or less in and around
weeds, in the Eagle River area. Use a spinner bait, or a five inch Senko,
rigged whacky. Good to excellent action.
Crappies, gills and perch are all locating in the same general spot in the
Eagle River area. Fish 15 feet of water or less in and around weeds. Use a
crappie minnow, waxie or chunk of crawler under a slip bobber. Mini-Mites
or small Beetle Spins are also working. Fish the entire water column, for
good to excellent action. Lots of sorting, but some decent fish are being
caught for the frying pan.
