I fished with a couple of great guys the last two days, Mike and Ken from the Chicago area. Unfortunately, they got to see just what a cold front and strong west winds do to the fishing out here. Yesterday was the first day after the front and we started out pitching jigs again, but I could tell right away that the bite was not "on". By 6:30 a.m. the west wind was blowing strong and boat control was pretty much non-existent. We ended up doing some drifting along a weedline and picked up a few fish that way, ending the day with 6 keepers and a few undersized fish. Today was a different story...we woke up to 45 degrees and the flags were sticking straight out again! We picked up two keepers on our first drift, but the second drift produced nothing, so we made the switch to casting spinnerbaits for pike. We hit all my favorit places in the upper bay and a couple south of Gladstone, but even the pike were only following today. We did manage one about 30 inches that we kept and released one fat mama about 35 or 36 inches. The sun was out all day today, but the water temperature still dropped a degree from yesterday. That's what a strong west, northwest wind does here. The warm water gets blown out and the cold water comes in...making fishing tough to say the least. I hope the wind switches around or the next three days could be tough. We'll post our results....good or bad. Here's a couple of pics from the past two days, good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
