Went fishing with Jim Bortz yesterday (on a body of water that will remain annonymous) and managed to land this stud. The fish was successfully released and was longer than 49.999999999. The blood was from a cut on the outside of her jaw.

Jim's boat has been on fire the past few weeks.

Without putting her on a scale, one can only estimate. After seeing the dimensions, Jim and I both felt confident in saying mid-30 pound range.

Great fish Red, what were the dimensions? Casting or Trolling?

longer than 49.99999? that's historic for you then isn't it? Can we officially say you now have your 50"?

Marvelous fish.

Thanks, guys.

It was a total team effort getting that fish to the net and successfully released. As for specifics about the fish, those are being reviewed by the IGFA and cannot be published until the final review is disclosed. :)

It was a privilege being part of the whole experience.

49.9999999......................B.S.

That is a long fish. I'm going to guess 53.5"

She is a beauty! Congrats! Sure is refreshing when it happens. Makes all those frozen fingers and long hours worth it.:)

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!

Only downfall is you just start over, now you have a new number to beat!
It just never ends. Great sport we love! Endless, I love it!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats again!

Here is our press release:

Team Bortz/Childress landed a fish over 49.999999 that probably weighed somewhere in the mid-30 pound range and the absolute best part (other than she is still alive) was that it was a Pennsylvania fish to boot.

Thats pretty impressive accuracy on the length measurement. I'd say we're getting down into some nano-scale there. Man, you guides have all the cool toys. LOL

Although I didn't get a ton of inspiration from the Flyfishing thread, this more than makes up for it!! I'd take a scale from that fish on the hook of one of my flies and be happy. :)

Fantastic!! Not to pry, but are you thinking of getting a repro. of that fish?

Red - congrats on a tremendous fish!!

One quote comes to mind..."We're gonna need a bigger boat!"

No repro for me and Jim feels the same way. It is kinda hard for one guy to take all the credit considering the circumstances in which she was caught. Plus, the 600+ dollars it would cost to do it could easily be spent on more musky tackle. :)

There will be a larger fish in which to ponder that option someday. It was just cool to experience that catch with someone who appreciates big PA fish like myself.
