Hi Folks.
Fishing is on the rise – even if the temperature isn’t. Well, it’s like fishing in September out there right now. Temperatures in the 40’s out there in the morning and then high 60’s and low 70’s during the day. Because of all the cool weather, it has taken fish a long time to stabilize. This past week has shown us a dramatic increase in fishing activity. We’ve had nice catches of multi-species. WALLEYE, northern, bass – both small and largemouth, crappies and perch. We are finding fish in fairly shallow water, dark waters have been in the 6 to 8 ft. mark or less at times and on clear water – 12 to 15 feet seems to be the magic mark. Weeds are definitely a cover of choice in lakes. On the flowages, fish have moved into the heavy snags. Jigs-tipped-with-nightcrawlers are by far the top bait. We should see steady improvement during this upcoming week and I fully expect by mid-August to see a very strong walleye and multi-species bite continue until turn over.
MUSKIES continue to be impressive. These big toothies have been on the prowl for quite awhile. They’re chasing darn near anything you throw at them. Weeds, rock bars and points with fast breaks have been the places to look for these fish. There have been a lot of nice muskies moving around and area anglers have enjoyed some very good success over the past weeks. This is another bite that should continue to impress during the upcoming week.
That’s it for now. See you on the water. Jeff Winters
