Today I had Larry and his 8 yr. old grandson Grant on board for a 5 hr. excursion. We started out casting jigs/crawlers in the weeds, and on Larry's second cast he caught a fish, so it didn't take us long to find them. Let me tell you, Grant is going to be one good fisherman, this kid started pulling in walleyes left and right, and even caught one before the Captain. I had more fun watchng Grant catch fish than I had catching them myself. I pictured my own son Cameron out there in a few years reeling them in. The only bad thing was that out of about 30 walleyes landed while pitching jigs none of them were keepers. We were greeted this morning with the worst wind possible, a west wind, making it difficult to stay on our spot. We made two drifts along the weeds before I made the decision to change tactics and locations to look for some bigger fish. We headed north and started trolling Walleyes Choice (http://www.walleyeschoice.com) harnesses along another weedline and pretty soon they started biting. We finished our morning doing this and ended up with 5 keepers and several more throwbacks. Noticed more spent mayfly carcasses on the surface and even saw some alewives jumping out of the water. This is typically the best time of year for numbers of fish, but it seems like everything is about a month behind this summer. Here's a few pictures from today, good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
