It was another fairly wet and cool week, until a string of great days to end the week. Kakagi (Crow) Lake has surface temps mostly around 65 degrees, with a few back bays running closer to 70.
Lake Trout ended the week biting great in the afternoons. A couple boats caught 3 and 6 in afternoon outings on the nicer days. Best Lake Trout was about 10 pounds this week - caught jigging in the 90' waters. A friend on the lake reported good success trolling in 120' areas. Three of our guests caught their first ever Lake Trout this week, including the 10 pound Laker - very exciting.
Muskie action included two 30"+ Muskies caught on a hook and worm by some bass anglers. The Fish of the Week was a 45" Muskie caught by a 13 year-old angler on his first trip to Boreal Bay Lodge! Congratulations, Ryan!
Bass action was ok - some medium 2-3 pound bass and plenty of smaller ones, but the cold and rains slowed our bass anglers a fair bit. If we had some nicer weather, they would have found and landed the big one that got away last year. The colder weather has pushed many of the Bass deeper again.
A few more Northern pike being caught this week, but mostly the smaller ones on Kakagi and no one targeting the Northerns, this week.
My Mom and Dad went to try Lake of the Woods for a short while today - a few Walleye caught, best was 17". Have not heard back yet on Cedartree action, but we will have some boats out after the Walleye this week.
Jean's Mom and Niece came up for a short while, their first trip to Boreal Bay. The landed about 1/2 gallon of wilderness blueberries from the islands. Jenny and Amy tricked their cousin (our Niece) into jumping into the refreshing 65 degree waters in our bay! I even went for a swim with girls today.
Another enjoyable week for being with family and friends in the north woods.
Later this week we should have 5 boats out fishing fairly seriously, which makes for a little more report material. :-)
Regards,
