Jim Kasznia, originally from Chicago and now living in Texas, hadn't been Muskie fishing in 17 years. And he had never been to Oak Haven Resort.
Brothers Mark and Matt Nelson were born and raised in Minnesota, and both clearly know a few things about Muskies. Mark now lives in Pennsylvania while Matt resides in Minneapolis.
When the three of them agreed they were overdue for a few days of fishing in northern Minnesota, Mark decided Oak Haven Resort looked good because of the chain of nine different lakes available from our docks.
The first two weeks of September were our most consistant warm days of the summer. A southern breeze with temps around 80 degrees helped warm surface water temps again to the lower 70's. On Sunday, September 20th, the winds had picked up considerably.
As they left the docks Sunday morning in our 16 foot rental boat, equipped with a 50 horse Mercury outboard and a MinnKota trolling motor, Jim's thoughts centered around his father, who had passed away ten years earlier to the day.
It would all come together for Jim that day.
With a little help from his friends, Jim landed a beautiful 45 inch Muskie. The guys took many great photo's, including the measurment of the fish, and carefully released it back to the lake where it came from. (Muskies under 48 inches must be released alive) They even told me... "we went right where you told us to go!!" Comforting words for a resorter nearing the end of a long and very busy summer.
To see Jim Kasznia's 45 inch Muskie that was landed on 9-20-09....1) click on PHOTO GALLERY....2) click on 2009 WALL OF FAME (this is where we keep our FISH pictures)....then 3) scroll down and click on Page 7.....then click on Jim's picture to enlarge it. Jim Kasznia is standing to the right. Matt Nelson is shown holding the fish...Matt then carefully released the fish alive. A job well done gentlemen.
Where did he catch it and what was he using? Well...get out your credit card and make a reservation. Then come see us. Maps and information await you.
Have you ever been to a secluded Resort where guests are quiet from 9 PM to 9 AM? Where the grounds are free of litter and cigarette butts? Where there's no barking dogs, or no pet odors or stains? A place where no one cusses? Where the fishing is great? Where the Management AND other Guests are respectful and friendly to each other?
Try us. You'll like us.
