The weather change was the big event of the week - Welcome to October in the north woods! Five days of very strong east winds and 50 degree high temps have dropped Kakagi (Crow) Lake about 10 degrees to the upper 50's.
The weather kept some of the fisherman off the water more then usual, but they had a good time watching TV and playing dice games while enjoying their favorite beverage.
The Lake Trout season ended with a couple more being caught, think I caught the last one about 5-6 pounds the day before the season ended.
A few Walleye were found just out from our Steven's bay launch including a nice 4 pound Walleye.
Bass action on South Narrows was OK during the windy cold days with some 2-3 pound Smallies. LOTW produced a 3-4 pound Smallie for a Northern Pike fishing couple.
Crappie were hard to find, the warm weather had pushed them out of the fall fishing spots and not quite back to the fall fishing spots - expecting them to be biting again fairly soon now. One slab Crappie was found weighing in at 1.5 pounds.
Northern Pike action was slower on LOTW the past couple days but the smaller Pike were going strong on Cedartree.
Muskie action featured me having three follows this past week - nothing exciting.
A few more fishing groups in before we change over to Deer camp.
Canada fall colours should be coming soon and just starting in places. When the leaves come down it is easier for some of the hunting activities and seeing more of the wildlife.
One other item of note, it is best to dock boats with the bow pointed out into the lake. One of our neighbors woke up to a sunken boat this past week because the waves were splashing over the stern all night.
The resort survived the winds pretty well, all of our guests and our own boats were docked bow out. A couple broken boat ropes, but we had extra ropes on for safety and the diving dock is now a little closer to shore then it should be :-)
Regards,
