Water temperatures on the Chain are in the mid to upper 50's. Lake Mendota Northern Pike have been active on suckers or casting bucktails in several areas on the lake. Shore fishermen have been having some success at night catching Walleyes. Many are in the 20 plus inch range. Some areas to try are Tenney Park breakwall, Warner Bay breakwall, Mendota County Park inlet, Marshall Park inlet, also on the University Campus piers near the Union. During the day out in the boat, look for Walleye action and Smallmouth to get more active on the steeper breaks, like Gov. Island, Mendota County Park, Fox Bluff, or Picnic Point. These are also good areas to look for Pike from now until freeze up. Lake Monona Bluegill anglers are still having good success, with fish being active on the weedlines, and/or some fish still suspended over deeper water. Some anglers have been catching Perch on the weedlines near Squaw Bay. Musky action has also been picking up on Lake Monona. There have been a few Perch being caught on Lake Waubesa. Look for these fish to be most active on the weedlines in several areas on the lake like Hog Island, Christies, Goodland Park, and Rockford Heights. This time of the year minnows can be deadly! Musky action has also been good on Waubesa, with fish up to 48" boated as of recently.
