The article I read said they found DNA material on the wrong side of the barrier meaning this fish has broken through and is now somewhere within the 8 miles leading into Lake Michigan. It comprises 90% of the base now in that body of water and I hate to think what it would do to the $8 billion sports and leisure base of the Great Lakes.
Any ideas on what we can do?

Just another example of how those we put in power cannot fight their way out of a wet paper bag. They set the electrical barrier at 25% of it's potential, then turn it up to 50% AFTER they find the fish have made it's way past the barrier!?!? WTF? Wouldn't that be like putting on a prophylactic after coaching your girl through labor pains?

This barrier project has been going on down here in Illinois here for a number of years and from what I remember reading in the news about it a few years ago was the politicians couldn't come up with a couple million to finish the project to stop these trash fish . And by the way, if you ever saw any of the videos on these fish and their impact they have on the aquatic enviroment , you'd puke. Thats a nice word for it.
So now we will deal with the multi millions of adverse impact on the economy around all the Great lakes. Good move strike another great play by the people in charge, if in fact this story is true.
You'd think that with all the history of invasive species in the Great Lakes, that the people[ politicians] in charge would have figured out by now that they should allocate enough money to protect not only the greatest fresh water body in the world , but you'd also think that spending a few measly million to protect the Great Lakes , and the economy which provides millions in revenue througout the Great Lakes region would be a no brainer !
Ahhh but here in lies the catch. You'd have to have people in charge that can think !!!

Take the "old" slot boundary and put up our own electric fence.

I live in So. ILL., the mississippi river and all the little rivers that flow into it have become nothing but carp ponds. All the other fish have been over run by them, it won't be long and the great lakes will be a big carp pond..sorry to say.

Looks like they're going to be poisoning a section of the Illinois River to try and stop those fish that have crossed over and are on their way to Lake Michigan.
If these fish get into the Great Lakes, slot limits, illegal nets etc won't be an issue.
