As of yesterday (the 10th,) there was some ice from the boat launch to Butler's Island. The last guys out in boats fished Monday night. They reported running into lots of skim ice north of Gladstone, and were not able to fish. The north end should skim over pretty quick the first calm night we get.

Well the 09' ice fishing season is officially underway well unoficially I guess saw some dude off the veneer plant in kipling today with a permanent shack. Looked like he walked out 50yds or so and dragged his shack. Hopefully he dragged her back to shore cus when I got outta work tonight it had to be near 30 degrees and balmy...

Everybody be safe and use yer noodle its not worth it like I always say fishing and swimmin are great apart but never together.

wish for cold nights and low wind speeds...

I checked it out yesterday afternoon from the kipling launch, i walked about halfway to the island angling to the right, ice pics and life jacket in tow. there was 2 inches of ice there .

only had to throw the spud a couple times to get through.

not enought there yet for me, i drove back to the harbor and set a few tip-ups just over the break

no fish

Haven't had any reports from Kipling, yet. Talked to a couple different guys fishing in the Escanaba harbor. Both reported 4 to 5 inches with a few pike and perch being caught.

solid 4 inches 400 yards past Butlers at Noon on Wens. Verified by a spud hole and measured with a ruler.
