The past couple of weeks definitely kick-started the hard water season. I hear Kinzua is safe and solid and coughing up some nice walleye already.

Safe and solid is a matter of interpretation as there are still many areas that are still only one inch and not safe at all, especially near any channels. So, still be very cautious out there. As far as nice walleye being caught, there may have been a few pulled through the ice so far ; )

Thanks for clarifying that, Chris. The guy I spoke with made it sound like you could park a dual-axle truck out there with no problems.
Chautauqua had some open spots near the I-86 bridge on Thursday morning which surprised me a little.

The ice was far better before we got all this snow. Fished the reservation a few times with eight legal eyes and two big pike.
Fished PA water two days ago and the water and slush on top was thicker than the ice. One legal eye and two pike. Nothing great but enough to get the freezer packed for a bit.
