Big deal to just sit in jail for awhile. What about a fine and community service, ie: helping with some type of conservation/fish related project to help restock the fish that is gone. Not tough enough sentence!

Well, there was a little more to it than some jail time. Both lost their fishing privileges for 3 years. Both had fines and court costs of around $1600. In addition, the pair was ordered to pay $5000 in restitution! Johnson was sentenced to 30 days in jail, and Tatrow to 180. The judge ordered that their jail time be split in half - serving the first half starting in April, and the second half in October. The judge said that the DNR asked him to do it that way to be sure these guys would not be on the water during the spring walleye and fall whitefish spawn.
The BDNGLSF lawyer was very happy with the outcome.

I see that they had there fishing privlages revoked.
Who cares, now the state is going to loose $30 each year from both of them for the next 3 years.
Last i checked you didnt need to buy a license to poach and violate any game laws. If you have a license and make any violation, who cares if you have the license, becasue a person doesnt need one to violate.
In my opinion i would have slapped a really big fine on all these guys. Fishing brings alot of money to the area and if fishing is slow, business is slow. I have noticed the decline over the past few years in both fishing and business.
If you look at the big picture, these people who violate and game or fish are hurting themselves and mostly others.
Im just really ticked off to put it in easy terms.
