Your best bet is to use the search feature here and read....a lot! Then ask about details. You'll get more help that way. Good luck.

Ditto what Steve said. You can learn a lot by watching the reports here. If you have time before heading out, swing by the shop and I can point out a few spots on the map to help get you started. I'm usually there all day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The rest of the week I'm normally around between 1 and 4. After 4, I'm on the ice:D

Thanks for the info guys. I have been reading like crazy on here. Is there an Armory right next to the water? And is Kipling a launch on the water? I have never been there and I am unfamiliar with those areas that a lot of people are talking about. Bait Shop Guy I will definitely stop in and see you before I head out. Thanks for the info guys!!!

The armory is next to the McDonalds, which is next to the BP station, which is next to the Shell station, which is next to the highway. All commonly used landmarks for that area.
I guess you could call Kipling a "suburb" on the north side of Gladstone. There's a DNR boat launch there that is also used for ice access.
