Yes, Saugeyes can be and are caught on tip ups. These are quite popular over on Buckeye Lake, and I caught fish on them at Indian Lake last winter. While it sometimes seems hard to beat the aggressive jigging action of Vib-E's or Swedish Pimples, etc., there are advantages to setting tip ups in Ohio. You are allowed six tip ups and two jig rods per angler and that being said, you can really cover water and fish more effectively by spreading your lines. My preferred bait on tip ups are smaller golden shiners for Saugeyes on #6 or #8 treble hooks. I keep them typically six to eight inches off the bottom. Big Perch will hit these too as a bonus.
