Thinking about coming up this weekend to try this lake. Know nothing about it but want to try something new. Mainly focus on walleyes and northerns but wouldn't mind finding some panfish. Not asking for any specific spots, just somwhere to start. Is this lake worth my time? Thanks in advance

JGK,

Pioneer Lake might be a fun place to try for some northern pike or blue gill action. The lake is very fertile with lots of cabbage, coontail and milfoil. Try the south basin and look for "pockets" and "holes" in the weeds for gills and panfish and look for pike on the deeper edges but be sure to experiment with different depths. Drill plenty of holes and stay mobile!

Good luck and fish hard!

Thanks Chas,
Was wondering if you or any one else for that matter is familiar with the regs. on this lake. Having trouble finding them. mainly just the walleye regs. any slot limit or anything.?

JGK,

The regulations are:

The minimum length on walleye is 15 inches and the daily bag limit is 3.

Daily bag limit on northern pike is 5, I do not think there is a special length.

The bag limit on panfish (bluegill, pumpkinseed, yellow perch, white and black crappie) is 25 in total.

Vilas county special regulations section begins on page 48 of your 2009-2010 Wisconsin Fishing Regulations book.

Good luck and fish hard!
