Went out and fished Lake Dubay this afternoon. Not much was happening and the current was extremely strong. Had a hard time seeing my lure on the vexilar. Things got a little scary when someone from a neighboring group went to investigate a exposed log or stump and ended up falling through the ice. The ice where we were fishing was between 12-14" but I'm sure by the exposed stumps, the ice had melted due to the warmth of the sun. The person was able to flop back onto the ice but had gone in past his waist. Please be careful as you set out ice fishing on our local flowages. Water levels have dropped significantly in the past week and the channel is beginning to open on Lake Dubay with water showing through all the way past Taylors Island. It was interesting watching cars race on the ice track by hwy "C" and to see open water on the other side of the roadway. There were a lot of bald eagles flying around the exposed water with 5 at one point sitting on the ice near the open water. After ice fishing for a few hours, we packed up and checked out some of the open water areas. Dubay dam is completely clear and there were four boats out fishing. We watched some of the anglers catch some short walleyes while we were there. The water is down considerably so use caution when launching and motoring to your fishing spot. This is a great time of year for fishing in the Central Wisconsin region with many opportunities available for anglers. Please remember to use caution on the ice or in the boat. Take a kid fishing
