SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will accept applications from hunters for site drawings for the 2010-11 Archery Deer Hunting Season at Beaver Dam State Park near Carlinville and Horseshoe Lake State Park (Madison Co.) near Granite City. Site permit applications will be available March 1-31.
Prospective applicants can obtain an application form either online or from the site offices to apply to archery deer hunt at Beaver Dam or Horseshoe Lake during the 2010-11 season. Site-specific applications will offer nine weekly intervals at Horseshoe Lake State Park and 11 weekly intervals at Beaver Dam State Park. Applicants should prioritize their hunting week preference and will be selected randomly during the drawing.
Beaver Dam State Park (Macoupin Co.) offers approximately 450 acres of hunting area for the archery program. The hunting area consists predominately of upland hardwood forested acres with an interspersion of cropland and grassland. Horseshoe Lake State Park (Madison Co.) offers approximately 600 acres of hunting area for the program, consisting of small to medium size woodlots surrounded by cropland and grassland components. Additional wooded acreage is opened to archery deer hunting after November 1 at Horseshoe Lake State Park.
Goode's Woods Nature Preserve, a 40-acre woodland nature preserve located in northern Macoupin Co. and a satellite area of Beaver Dam State Park, will allow one archery hunter permit per week. Fourteen total weeks will be available for archery deer hunting this area. Bohm Woods Nature Preserve, a 90-acre nature preserve located in Madison Co. and a satellite area of Horseshoe Lake State Park, will allow two archery hunter permits per week. Fourteen total weeks will also be available for archery deer hunting at the Bohm Woods Nature Preserve.
Drawings will be held on Thursday, April 1 at both sites. All of these areas - Beaver Dam State Park, Goode's Woods Nature Preserve, Horseshoe Lake State Park (Madison Co.), and Bohm Woods Nature Preserve - require the harvest of an antlerless deer prior to harvesting an antlered deer.
