Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens invites the area anglers to attend the 2010 Spring Fishing Classic from 7:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 7402 W. Lake Katherine Drive in Palos Heights. Only 125 tickets are on sale now for this fundraising event to benefit Lake Katherine.
“Lake Katherine is a fishermen’s dream,” remarked Bill Sullivan, executive director for Lake Katherine. “This unique opportunity to fish on the lake is a rare opportunity to fish the entire shoreline on Lake Katherine and support environmental education, animal care and habitat restoration.”
The second annual event offers the chance to win cash prizes and trophies for the largest muskie, largemouth bass, walleye, channel catfish and bluegill. The event also includes a barbeque at noon following the event. Participants will also be able to bid in a silent-auction for a pontoon boat fishing trip for five on Lake Katherine.
The event has fairly straight forward regulations. Only 125 tickets will be sold and two fishing rods are allowed per ticket. Unlike the family fishing day fishing is allowed on the entire shoreline of the lake. No minnows or crayfish are allowed as bait. Participants are allowed to keep 15 bluegill/hybrid sunfish. All crappie may be kept. All other fish including bass, walleye, catfish and muskies must be released. All other wildlife should remain undisturbed.
Tickets are $75 and are available at the nature center. For questions or further information contact Lake Katherine at (708) 361-1873 or
