The water temps are coming up nicely and some weed growth is starting to show up on some lakes. Currently Crappies is the best bite but many other fish are showing up in the shallows too. Look for Crappies in the 2-8 foot range in new weeds or dead standing weeds, also have found them in the shallow wood. I have been using a jig and small minnow but a minnow under a slip bobber will also work. The trick to finding the fish has been cover a lot of shallow water as they have been moving and activity levels change daily. The walleye opener is coming and looks to be a great weekend on the water. Walleye should be positioned in the shallow weeds and ready to feed. Try a 1/16 th once jig and a Fathead minnow for Walleye and you will catch Perch, Crappie, and Northern Pike. This tactic has also picked up the occasional Musky by accident due to the fact they are also using the shallows this time of year. Good luck to all.
