With the upcoming Musky season in the Northwood’s "Saturday of memorial day weekend" and the Boundary water opener on the 15th and for everyone down south this weekend. When spooling new super braid on your reels don't forget the mono backing. This will help cut cost down because you only need a 75-100 yards of braid and most reels hold 100 to 250 yards of braid all things considered. A common reel for example a Calcutta 400 or a Abu 6500 C3 put about 40 yards of 17 lb mono on first, then use a blood knot to tie on the braid. If you use 80lb it will be very close to 100 yards. This will very a little with different reels and line diameter, but this is a good reference. Secondly and possibly more important is the mono will hold tight on the spool and keep your line from spinning on the spool. Braided line is so smooth that it will slip or spin on the spool if not anchored. Musky can be tough enough to catch make sure you put the odds in your favor on opening day. Good Luck to all.
