kudos to any other fools like myself that came up the center of the big water saturday in a 16' transom mount.... don't care to repeat that stunt. At any rate, my buddy and I had an o.k. opener: several bass, 2 small skis, 1 limit of eyes, a 12.5" perch, and a bunch of true hammerhandle pike. We too went down to the south end trying to get out of the wind, unfortunately most of the wood I like to fish was way too shallow to hold fish. Rat lake was full of fike nets and the suckers were pinned up shallow boiling around, eagles beaning them. The number of nets and flags made me nervous - didn't know if I was violating a refuge so we pulled out - think Don was coming in when we were coming out. We tried up in the channel from Bastine to the dam (plenty of company) but didn't find the pattern. Water temps ~ 55, give or take a degree. Most action came on jig and minnow, the skis came on a bargain bin crank bait.
