April in our opinion was one of the best for jig fishing we have seen in years. The weather was stable, we had a few cancellations due to high wind and waves but well below the norm. There is a healthy school of 3 to 4 lb. male walleyes in the western basin. Our best application was 3/4 oz. purple hair jigs with a trailer hook. Some days light blue or John Deere green. "No Bait" was the norm and it worked well. The fish were staying in the 9ft to 17ft. we moved around form day to day to find the schools. Some early fish were caught with blade baits. The cooler temperatures have kept us using jigs and the transition to casting worm harnesses/weapons tipped with worms on hold. We have started using bottom bouncers with two hook harnesses tipped with worms on windy days. Some nice "Fish Ohio Walleye's" were caught the longest 29 1/4. New for 2010 All Fish Ohio awards are now registered on line at FishOhio.org. It takes about 90 days to process and you will mailed an award certificate and pin. May 1, the Ohio creel limit changed to 6 walleye per person per day with a 15 in. minimum. Smallmouth Bass is closed and opens the last Saturday of June with a 5 fish per person per day and 14 in. minimum. Yellow perch has increased to 30 per person per day Lake wide.
