Fished the river and Lake MI opening weekend. Ended up with 3 walleye (16, 24, 26 inches), 7 pike (25 - 29 inches), and about 10 smallies (14-19 inches). Mostly trolled crankbaits, but did try jigging and tossing some bigger minnows.
Top 4 walleye in the derby ranged between 24 and 30 inches.
Top 3 pike were 30 to 32 inches. 42 participants total. Derby was open to all waters in Schoolcraft County, so all the fish didn't come from the river.
Also fished Sunday night and Tuesday, didn't catch much. Tried an early salmon trip because the lake looked too inviting, especially if you have a smaller boat. Only marked about 10 fish, no takers.
