Lots of crappies still up in the wood today, although most of them were smaller males. There were already good numbers of crappies out suspended over deeper water, and they are tending to run larger then those in the shallows. The smallmouth bite continues to be red-hot, with lipless cranks, in-line spinners, and topwaters all producing. Locally here In North-Central WI, there are scores of walleyes up in the wood and where present, weed beds. We pounded the walleyes all afternoon today by working livebait along and through the deep weeds. With the musky opener now only 1 week away, the bite is going to be terrific as the water temps are entering summer mode. We've already encountered several active fish in the past week while casting the shallows for pike.
