For those of you coming up north for this Memorial Day Weekend, you are in for some terrific fishing, coupled with some nice weather.
All the fish are hitting right now. The water temperatures are in the 60's, and the fish are in the weeds on most area lakes some time during the day or evening, depending on the lake you are fishing.
The Eagle River Chain is RED HOT, with the walleyes, northerns, crappies, bass, panfish and muskies all in the same depths. If you fish in depths of 2 to 8 feet you will be on the fish. All types of baits are working. Leeches, fatheads, crappie minnows and 1/2 a nightcrawler on a jig or slip bobber rig are taking fish.
The musky action should be very good on Saturday(the musky opener)for those out on the water "throwing the bait". Small spinners, Wiz's, and twitch baits should be getting action. Don't over look a surface bait at dawn or in the evening, the muskies usually start hitting them at 60 degrees and the Eagle Chain is in the upper 60's.
If you are fishing clear deep lakes, look for the walleyes in the deep green weeds if they are present. If the lakes don't have a good weed growth, go deep. We are catching walleyes on these lakes between 25 feet and 35 feet deep already. Here a 1/8 oz. jig and XL Fathead minnow is working the best.
If you are fishing on the Chain, our bait shop at Boat Sport Marina will be opening for the season on May 27th. There are licenses, bait and all other items needed for fishing on the Eagle Chain available on the water.
This should be a great weekend for outdoor fun and fishing in the Eagle River area, so come on up!!
See you on the water,
Ranger Rick
