I am coming up june 18-25 and staying on the campground at Cranberry Lake. Just wondering if anybody had any info about whats going on at the Chain and lakes around. Also wondering what lakes on the chain are good for walleye. Thanks for any info

Nate,
Fishing on the Eagle River Chain has been very consistent with all species being active in the weeds on and off during the day. Look to depths of 3-10 feet and don't be afraid to fish suspended as we head into the mid-summer period. Muskie and northern pike are being taken on all the usual lures such as bucktails, spinners, twitch baits and plastic lures like the regular bull dawg. Picking lures with bright colors and "perch" style contrast is a good idea. Walleye fishing has been great with a 1/16th oz jig rigged with either a XL fathead minnow, leech or half a worm working well. All the lakes on the chain are good for walleye fishing but the most popular are Cranberry, Catfish and Eagle.
Good luck and fish hard!

Chas, thanks for the info and on the jigs do you put a curly tail on and tip it in with the minnow or just the jig and minnow. Thanks again.

Nate,
I usually just rig the minnow on the jig "clean" without using any twistertails etc...
Good luck,

Any info on Dam Lake for walleye ? We will be coming up June 19-26th and have fished over the weed beds last year and did well with Flat heads and jig. However, last year we fished the lake before the mayfly hatch. Thanks, Dale

The fishing on the Sugar Camp chain will be much the same as you had it last year. Those fish will be relating to the weeds most of the time. The bite window might be small but those fish are there. They may want more leeches than minnows with the mayflys hatching. Good Luck!

Just an FYI, we got skunked on Dam Lake for walleye the week of 6/20. What a change from last year. They must be gorging themselves on the mayflies that were still slowly hatching all week long. Nothing in the weeds or anywhere else.
We did do well on crappie however on the shorelines in lilly pads. Used only a small bare hook and small minnow to catch them.
