The weather has cooled the water down and slowed the bite a little. With warmer weather yesterday the bite has already started to improve. I have been guiding for Musky and Bass the last few days through the rain and cool weather. Musky have been following with a few bites but slower than a week ago. Mepps Musky Killers have been getting the most attention, with a few fish showing up on small crankbaits. Color has changed daily but location is still shallow in the 5-15 foot range. Most of the fish have been coming from thick patches of coontail in those depths.
Small Mouth Bass are still holding very shallow in less than 10 feet of water. Leaches and plastics on jigs have been working very well with a topwater bite near sundown. Larger fish have been holding closer to the 10 foot range with lots of smaller fish shallower.
Walleye and Perch are holding in the 5-15 foot range in and around green weeds. A 1/16 oz. jig and a Fathead minnow have been the best with some action on leaches. The bite continues all day with a peak early and late.
Good luck on the water.
