With the mayfly hatch just about over, the walleye action picked up a little on Sunday. My clients and I started the morning by working a few cribs and found only a couple of small perch, moving on, we then tried a mid lake hump and boated just 1 smallie. We then worked a stumpy point and bay and only came up with a few pike and another smallie. We then worked around a couple of islands that contained a good amount of coontail and we picked up 4 nice eyes along with more small pike and many bite offs. Our next move was to another coontail filled bay with lots of sunken timber and we hit the jackpot on big spawning bluegills, we all switched from jigs to slipbobbers with wire hook tipped with a small piece of crawler and we boated over 20 of them. When that action stopped, we made our last move to a very stumpy shoreline and here we boated a couple more smallies along with 2 more keeper eyes. Although the gills and a few smallies were caught on crawlers, the majority of fish came on 1/8th ounce Reeves weedless jigs tipped with medium fatheads.
