Hello Everyone, this is Cathy from Aquatic Arts Fishing Pro Shop right here in Tomahawk. The fishing has been great these past couple of days with reports of many fish being caught including plenty of 30-50 inch muskies. The warm weather has brought many species back into the shallows, making them more active and easier to catch. Bluegills have returned to their shallow water hang-outs in bays and weed beds, 1-5 ft of water. Anglers have been catching their limits of fat 9-11 inch bluegills, use small ice jigs like Northland Hexi-Flys or Gill Getters Tipped with a wax-worm, leaf worm, or thunderbug. The Crappie bite has picked up significantly as well. Fish near fallen trees and wood structure, 5-8ft of water. Floating Rapalas, size 3 & 5 have been luring in some nice slabs, 11-13inches in length. Beetle Spins and Charlie Bees have been working just as well. Both Large and Smallmouth bass have been hitting steadily this week on rubber worms and various soft plastics. Cast a Zoom Super Fluke or Berlkey Power Worm in the pockets of Lily Pad Patches for some nice Largemouth, Fish 3-6ft of water. Smallmouth can be found along rock bars and submerged stumps. Use Yamasenkos or imitaion Crayfish like Berkley Crazy Legs Chigger Craws or Rebel's Deep Wee Craws for some real pigs. Fish 4-8ft of water. Northern Pike have been slamming almost any kind of lure with a spinner blade. Northland Reed-Runner Spinnerbaits and Mepps Giant Killers have been hot. Cast along weed edges and right inside weed pockets and you are sure to get a nice fight from these fast hitters. The Walleye bite out here on the river has been a bit slow. The few fish we have caught have been on Nightcrawlers with a Lindy Spinner Rig, fish right the weeds during the morning hours and head to deeper pockets, 6-10ft of water during the day. Jig an Extra Large Fathead on a 1/8 to 1/4 oz jig for the best result in the afternoon. Stuck Fishing in the Weeds this summer?? Not a Problem. There are a variety of great weedless lures you can use that are multi-species. Try Northland Jawbreaker Spoons, Topwater rubber frogs by Spro or Snag Proof, Mepps Top Props, Norman Weed-Walkers, and Lindy No-Snagg Jigs to name a few. You never know what you will pull out of the water your next cast!!! Well, thats all for today, this has been your weekly fishing update with Catch em Cathy.
