July 1st brought in warm and humid 80+ degree weather and 4.5" inches of rain this past Saturday night. Kakagi (Crow) Lake is near it's high water marks on the rocks and seeing water temperatures in the low 70's frequently.

Blueberries are starting to get ripe and a group found a nice bucket of them today. Wild blueberries or wild blueberry pie with some ice cream, makes a great summer snack!

The Beach has been popular lately for those looking for a refreshing swim!

July also welcomed in the new HST tax which for the most part doesn't impact our guests a whole bunch... cabins changed to 13% HST vs 5% GST + 5% PST (10% combined tax).... boat rentals end up being the same $$ with 13% HST vs the 5% GST + 8% PST. Items that were tax exempt from GST and PST bags of ice are still exempt. Items previously GST only will be increasing 8% (camp sites).... some items where the tax was charged wholesale, but not retail will likely go up 8%; Gasoline is major example of this.

Fish bite?

Lake Trout - are moving into the deep holes and most groups are doing fairly well, a few new guests are struggling some with Lake Trout and a few new guests are catching them like the veterans. Most of Lake Trout seem to be in the 4-6 pound range... some bigger and some smaller also being found.

Bass - trolling is working for good numbers of fish. Casting is working for bigger fish. Live bait works well for a mix of numbers and size.

A 29" Muskie was caught by a guest hoping for bass.

Our first burbot was also caught this week... hear I'm going to see a picture of the ugly fish later in the week.

Some guests will be out after the Northern Pike tomorrow and Walleye fishing groups will be in next week.

Regards,
