Hello everyone, this is Cathy from Aquatic Arts Fishing Pro Shop right here in Tomahawk. We can expect fishing to get a bit more predictable as the usual summer weather pattern stabilizes towards the end of the week. The walleye bite has been slow. The best bite has been right at dusk near the outer weed edges, 3-7 ft of water. Leeches and crawlers have been working great on slip floats. They seem to be responding best to a slow presentation, if using crankbaits, slow down your retrieve as the walleyes are not as active due to these past weeks weather patterns. The Northern Pike Bite has remained strong through this past weekend. They have been hitting like crazy on almost and kind of lure with a spinner blade, such as northland spinnerbaits and mepps size 5. Topwater plastics has been producing a few fish as well. Cast along outside weed edges and inside bays, 3-8 ft of water. They have also been hitting steadily on live bait, try soaking a walleye or northern sucker suspended 2-3ft off the bottom along the weed edges. A 40" Northern was even caught this past weekend on a Jumbo Leech!! The crappie bite has been fair to poor this past weekend, due to the weathers instability. We can expect the bite to pick up as the week continues. Use small lead head jigs like cubby jigheads tipped with a crappie minnow or plastic tail. Search for underwater structure, 6-10ft of water. Some Crappie have been found along the weed beds as well, 4-6ft of water. Try casting some small spinners like Beetle Spins or Charlie Bees along the outer AND inner weed edges. The Largemouth bass bite has been holding steady. During the day you can find some nices sized fish along the weed edges and inside lily pad patches. Nightcrawlers and spinnerbaits have been proving very effective. During the hot evening hours the largemouth have been moving into the thicker weed patches, 4-6 ft of water. Try casting some weedless skirted bass jigs like chompers or booyah's right into the thick weeds for some nice sized fish!!! Rubber worms like senkos and yum dingers have been working great as well. Rig them wacky style, right through the center of the worm which makes them flutter down, side to side erratically. Bass cannot resist!!! Smallmouth bass seem to have scattered from their usual holding areas. We have been finding them all over the place: near cattails, cabbage weeds, rock bars, and deep rock structure. Any kind of crankbait or artificial bait in a crayfish pattern has been hot. Plastic Tubes jigged slowly have been hot too!! Fish right near the bottom as these bass are scavenging for crayfish.Well, thats all for today, this has been your weekly fishing update with Catch em Cathy.
