Anyone up on what's going on with bears in the campsites? We were out Saturday and see C12 is closed with a trap next to the fire pit, and at least C1 and C2 have bear warnings posted at the sites.

We spent time over the 4th at C15 & C17 with no issues, but a guy told us at the boat landing they had a bear raiding their camp at B1. We've never had a problem while spending 60+ nites the past 4 years.

Thanks

Wow. C12 is on a small island! I wouldn't want to share an island that small with a bear!

Lots more bears, lots more people and I am sure that some of those peeps aren't using wise judgement in how they are handling their food/refuse... Guess what happens then...

we were on C12 on Thursday and could not chase Yogi off. We bailed at dark and returned in the am to finish picking. Yogi was gone by then, with no damage. First bear event in over 30 years of TFF camping. Also saw the signs on C1

What area (roughly) are the C1 and C2 sites? Don't have my map in front of me..

They are on the northeast shore of Horseshoe.

I wonder if that bear at C12 was swimming back and forth to that island, or was staying there overnight!

Lund3, glad to hear you and your gear came out OK! I emailed Ranger Josh to see what the status of the trapline is, no reply yet.

Ski2313, C1 and C2 are in the channel to Horseshoe.

Mark Benson, ya, we take reasonable precautions when we go out, like precooking bacon at home and then boiling it in a ziploc bag to warm it up for breakfast... but it's tough to do the backpacking-type precautions like hanging your food from a tree limb when you're toting a week's worth of vittles!

Be safe out there! Larrynrita
