Muskie Matt

Well, the past week has been a tough bite for muskie but the smallmouth and largemouth bass were biting pretty good, especially the largemouth. Just find lily pad or brush areas and toss a spinner bait around... you'll get a fish.
Water temps are still very high, 76-77 as of yesterday, even the pike were a bit shy in biting and they're usually all over stuff. We have had cooler weather move in and I expect that to kick in a decent bite. I'll find out today, heading out to try some muskie fishing on the ER Chain.
I'll be trying surface baits and spinner baits to begin with, searching mainly the shallow weed areas. Lately the fish have got to hit have come from very shallow weed areas, 2-5ft! Little surprising considering the water temps lately but I've seen that pattern before. Some of my biggest summer fish have come from very shallow slop areas. I'll be trying the Chain standard colors... orange/black, chartruese, white, and yellow.
Good luck to everyone this week!
