Hello again everyone, this is catch 'em Cathy with your friday fishing update!! The cooler temps we have had earlier this week have helped out the bite tremedously, and has triggered the appetite of the bigger fish!! Northern Pike seem to have returned to their ferocious feeding patterns. Large spinnerbaits, bucktails and daredevil spoons have been doing the trick. Cast along weed edges and rockbars, 4-10ft of water. Morning and evening's are the best time!! Walleyes have been picking up as well. They seem to be preferring crankbaits and plastics as opposed to live bait. Gulp Alive minnows and yum twister tails on a lead head jig have been working great. Jig these plastics in deeper holes and below some of the area dams for some nice catches. As far as crankbaits for walleyes, rapala shallow running shad raps have been hot. Bluegill and perch seem to be the best color patterns this time of year. Cast along weed edges, stump fields, and rock bars. Once again, morning and evenings are best for this species. Some nice sized smallies have been brought in the shop this week, with a 21 incher measuring in!! Rubber worms and plastic tubes have been reigning supreme. During the day the bass have been schooling in deeper wood structure, suspended off the bottom 3-4ft. You want your plastics to slowly flutter to the bottom to be sure these fish see your bait. In the evening, the bass have been cruising into the shallows searching for baitfish. Topwater chug bugs by storm, hula poppers, jitterbugs and shallow running lures have been working best. Some hot crankbaits for bass this time of year include mann's baby 1 minuses, storm sub-warts, and storm wiggle warts. These lures only run up to a foot deep, and they have a wide wobble through the water which drives the bass mad!!! These lures may also catch some nice sized walleyes as well!!
