finally got around to getting some pics together from the past month or so and they should be up and posted with in the next couple days .
water temps 60.5-59
had a lot of wind last week/early this week and with dropping water temps last 10 days the lake turned over middle of last week. earliest and quickest turnover i've seen in 15 yrs which will make for an awsome late sept/oct bite. typically our turnover occurs more slower and drawn out over a 10 day-2 week period in late sept. and the funky period lasts longer. with no heat waves forecasted it is a done deal and we should step into the next level quickly now and much earlier than normal,we are excited about the next 4 weeks of fishing coming up and the trophy potential as we usually only get a week or 2 of post turnover time before we have to close.
despite the wind,weather,turnover,etc. fishing was not bad it was mostly boat control that suffered and actually it held up as well as could be expected. the ccmi chapter had 8 guys and boated 14 fish up to 50.5" with 41 boated in camp for the week.
i had fun filming/spending time with with pete/next bite who had ricky medlocke,lead guitar player from leonard skinner band along as guest host for his first musky fishing experience and we boated 4 lost 2 more in 2 days total fishing up to 48",just couldn't find a jumbo ready to go with the tougher conditions with ricky getting 3 of them. it should air in jan some time and it will be an entertaining show,lots of action,tips,laughs,and some of rickys stories/experiences were priceless,great guy and down to earth sportsman,check it out.
the next 3-6 days don't over look anything from 2-30' incl very shallow as fish will be moving around alot and can be anywhere. windows of opportunity will happen daily but typically will be short and intense with many times packs of fish on prime strucures incl weeds as well as rocks so when you see things happening or catch a fish get on it and don't dilly dally around.
blades moved and caught most fish but cranks and rubber had thier share as well as live bait.
walleyes stayed strong though dropped deeper daily through the week,susan rohrer had a 30.5" fish and despite strong winds which made boat control dificult guide dates avgd 40-70+ with probably 70% of the fish 15-20" but enough slotters and over with quite a few 24-26" caught to keep it interesting. the bigger fish were 10' or so deeper on avg. most fish depending on the structure were 35-44' on rigs and jigs as has been the case though several guides found some fish in the grass at 12-14' also.big bait was and will be key. with in a short time this next week they will move shallower 18-26' again once everything stabilizes again and will go into a strong fall bite.
bigger pike showing up shallow more and more with the cooling water temps and the bass are really starting to stack up on the reefs and humps at 18-24'.
first week of duck/goose /fish combo hunt was a huge success,the mannings shot over 200 geese and ducks ,got thier limits of walleyes and had a ball for the 4 days they were here. they have waterfowl hunted all over the country and said it was thier best hunt ever.
we still got a few openings sept 18-25,25-oct 2 which are good times considering nicer weather temps and good fishing combined
,full oct 2-9 but check with us if that works for you to be sure no cancellations occured,
and openings oct 9-16 which should be absolutly prime time.
