Ty,
Did you notice one side being better than the other this year at different times?
Thanks.

Yes, the East side was way way better in June than the west. Mainly because of one spot. In July we caught fish on both sides about equal. In August it was an east side bite again. In September it was more east than west. In early October we had a good run on the west side in one small spot with a lot of fish and then we ran river channels on the east side the rest of the fall.
Every year we run into a couple spots that are on fire and this year was no different. There were some really hot spots for a few weeks at a time and then nothing to be had in those spots. We made the most of the productive spots when they were going good without beating them up too bad.

You mention that while certain sides are slow at times they can have a hot area . . . . .in regards to this hot area.
What do you think makes an area get hot at certain times. Does it have to do with baitfish, prevailing winds into a certain area or seasonal movements of muskies passing through.

I actually think the weeds are the most important factor in holding numbers of muskies. Baitfish are also important but most of the spots that had great weeds also or eventually had baitfish. There were a couple spots that were hot just because of the time of year like you said. Those spots are more predictable than the weed spots but get hit more by anglers. There's nothing like finding a new weedbed that nobody is fishing and have fish stacked on it.
