All said and done it seems about a foot (+ or - a bit) of snow has fallen around here in general, great for the "bubbleheads", bad for us "ice cubes". Snomo trails opened Friday and this snow will be a great start for a trail base. Bad news is the snow will insulate what ice we have and prevent new ice from forming on lakes until the cold air temps work through the snow cover in a few days. The weight of the snow will also push down on what ice we have, forcing water up, creating sloppy slush conditions on area lakes. Great care and caution is advised when checking ice, we've got anywhere from 1-5 inches of ice depending on what lake you choose to fish. Not to mention, I HATE checking ice under deep snow cover, it's just freakin' spooky when I can't SEE the ice I'm checking.

The attached photo was taken before this most recent snowfall, I had about 3 inches of ice under me in this area but another 100ft out the spud bar would punch right through about an inch of ice! Be safe out there.
