As of this weekend, all of the major lakes appear to have ice coverage. This is surprisingly early for Lake Mendota, which usually doesn't see coverage until into the new year. Currently there is 3"-5" of ice on Mendota.
There has been little report as to perch action, and the perch fisherman have been absent on the lakes. Pike and Walleye action has been more reliable. Try Dunn's Bar, Governor's Island, Warner Bay, Mendota County Park, Stoney Point, and Spring Harbor for walleye and pike bites.
No word on any action on James Madison Park or the University Bay area, but it is more than likely that there are fisherman in that area, or will be soon.
Cherokee Marsh has been producing small bluegills, perch, with occasional decent sized blue gill.
Monona Bay continues to produce bluegills in the 7"-8" range, crappies up to 11", and perch between 9"-10". For the pike and bluegill bite on Monona, try in the Squaw Bay area. There has been no report of a perch bite on Monona as of yet. Check Lake Kegonsa for some perch fishing, although the bite has been slow.
Lake Waubesa has full ice coverage in the 4"-6" range. There have been some reports of bluegill action, though the bite has been somewhat inconsistant.
