I'm looking for a new reel to cast the double 10's and other large baits. Is the Revo Toro Winch a good choice? My new-last-year 7000i has failed me.

Lots of guys are now using the Winch for the Double 10s with pretty good results. I do not personally know of anyone having issues, but there was some scuttlebutt running around late last summer about some guide that was going through them like popcorn. Everyone I sold is still going strong.

Since Dick used one all last sumer, he can better comment.

Other choices that I have firsthand experience with are the Penn 975, and the old Swedish made 7000 if you can find one. Any of the Asian made 7000 are of the extreme POS category.

Some guys are using Shimano Trinidads, and Daiwa Saltists, but I'm no fan.

The Swedes are the only way to go!

I had my wife Lynne use a revo last year for dbl 10's, then told her after 3 days W/ the revo to try the penn 975. Her reply was, the Penn 975 was much easier to retrieve then the revo. There you have it. A womens point of view.

And my opinion is I also like the Penn 975...It felt like the revo, and the low profile, that you were squeezing, and your hand would cramp. Anyways, 975 for us!

They're even better than a new 7000!

Comparing a Swedish made 7000 to an Asian one, is like comparing a Hummer (SUV that is) to a Yugo. Virtually impossible to hurt Sven, and Yammoto is raising the white flag within two weeks.

But you have to admit Frank, the asian versions make some pretty neat noises on their way to an early grave. :)

Wonder just how many The Duke has helped out over the years?
Think he uses a sissy Revo?

Wasn't that Wayne guy at Op Muskie last year?Looks familiar.

As to Revos,I love them and mine have been problem free.I have lots of Swedes and Asians and even a couple P 975s.
I hear the Dembiecs on 'cramping' but all of them do that for me eventually. In fact the Garcias,Penns and other 'big' reels that I've palmed for years have destroyed my thumbs(they'll get you as well in time if you 'palm')and the Revo has allowed me to continue on-sort of.
I in fact beat my drums for them.Watch.

In terms of reliability I'd rank them:
Swedes
Revos
Penns
Asians.

By the way Frankie,I'm half Swedish and half Norski-although I'm not sure which half is which. There's an opening if I've ever given you one.
Oh,and if not mistaken,Revos are 'engineered' in Sweden.Maybe they are actually made in Norway.;)
