I looked at this earlier in the year before they migrated, and it was interesting that each of the loons stayed within a very small area of the lake for most of the summer. But it's amazing how much distance they can cover in a day once they decide to head south. Right now, I'd rather be where they are.
This is an interesting link. It looks like the TFF loons all winter in areas far enough from the oil spill area that they'll return to the TFF unharmed. Wouldn't that be wonderful. Hearing the last call some nights up there just puts the perfect end to a perfect day.
See ya when the waters soft.
I went ice fishing this past Saturday, and I must admit, I just don't get it.

The loons are heading north. Some stop in Park Falls and stay on the Flambeau River, which is now open with ice on the shore, until the TFF opens.

Saw a pair here in Wis. Rapids about a week or so ago. They don't usually stop and if they do, they don't stay very long.

One of the loons has made it back to Wisconsin. Given that there is still 2 feet of ice on the TFF, it may be a while before they return home.

Some of the loons have returned to the TFF. We heard one calling after the snow storm on April 23rd. I think he was complaining about the weather too!

Scott...the Loon Migration link shows that Loon # 55484 was back on the Flowage Easter Sunday! You were right on top of that one!

Loon 55479 was our adopted loon this year and we named him"Yodel".
We heard him saying "hello" this evening as we sat on the deck of Flambeau Vista. I think he was actually back on Easter Sunday.
