Hi everyone,
Well, I didn't make it to da U.P. because the lake I wanted to fish was recieving more lake affect snow and I found out they already had about 24" of snow on the ice. That's what makes it so hard to ice fish the U.P. To much snow.
I fished my favorite little lake close to home and did pretty well all things considered. Caught 3 walleyes with 1 keeper. The other two were just under sized at 14". had 6 flags on the tip ups, but only caught 1 walleye that way. Did have a musky bite one line off. The other flags, the fish took out about 30 feet of line each time before dropping it. I had sucker minnows on the tip ups. Caught two walleyes jigging . Both came on a jigging Rap tipped with a minnow head. Lost two other fish at the hole. They weren't big enough to be keepers, so it was like doing a long distant release.
It was colder then heck. With a stiff north wind and temps in the single digits, the wind chills were well below zero. My hole in my portable kept freezing, so I had to continually keep scooping it to keep it open. Decided to go when my propane ran out. I'll be back there again with extra propane tomorrow.
