January 16, 2011 Fishing Report
WOW ! This is some BEAUTIFUL weather ! This warm weather has triggered a lot of melting of snow on the ice and has created a water flow in your ice fishing holes. This has triggered a pretty fair crappie bite around the area. This February thaw is really what crappie fishermen are waiting for when catching these tasty little treats. Fish are being found mainly around weed growth and have been suspending a foot below the ice, feeding on all the little organisms that are being flushed into the hole. Ice jigs tipped with a spike or a crappie minnow have been working the best. This bite should continue fairly good throughout the rest of the ice fishing season, barring any deep cold snap.
We’re winding down the game fish portion of our season. There is still some walleye and northern action to be had. Anglers have been doing the best on tip ups tipped with either a golden shiner (mainly for pike) and walleye suckers for walleyes. Again, being fished around the weeds in about 10 to 14 ft. of water. Action has been somewhat slow but this nice weather has sure made it comfortable out there.
Good luck fishing. Jeff
