Wow its been a long time since I have put a post on here. Sorry for those who have been waiting.
The winter is almost done and the jigging on the Detroit River is just a month away. I have been busy visiting the fishing sport shows this winter with stops in Toronto, Chatham, London and Novi Mi, next stop Grand Rapids Mi on Mar 17-20.
For those interested in fishing the Det River boat control is the most important part of catching more fish. Keep you line vertical by using an electric motor to chase your line. Next is a quality fishing rod, buy ther best you can afford, this is not the time to go to a discount store and buy a combo for $29.99. Spinning gear is the most common for jigging and pair that reel up with some bright colored 6-8lb braided fishing line. The bright line, chartruese, yellow or white helps you detect bites and is easy on the eyes as you follow your line down river. You will need an assortment of jigs from 3/8-1 oz in various colors. Tips your jigs with plastic trailers, like the Wyandotte worm(brn, blk or purple) or a minnow like the FINS by Lunker City. There are numerous others but these are proven walleye catchers.
The Detroit River is about 30 miles long and there are numerous places to catch fish. Most anglers prefer the Cdn side for larger fish and numbers when the water clarity allows. Some of these " hots spots" include Peche Island, St. Rose Bay, Reaume Park(fountain) Hiram Walkers(whisky plant) the casino,
sculpture gardens, and the Salt Mine. Set up a milk run and look for active feeding fish.
For those interested in booking a guided trip now is the time to email or call for the best dates available.
