Ontario version of the Allegheny?

Does anyone on here know of any rivers in Ontario that are similar to the Allegheny? I'm looking to find a 4-5 day float trip where i can fish and camp with out a portage every day. Only thing close sounded like the turtle river. Guess 21 years of Allegheny fishing, camping, and scenery has me spoiled. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

French and Ottawa Rivers off the top of my head would be a start. I am not sure of the exact dimensions of these 2 river systems but they absolutely have BIG muskies in them.

Grasse River might be worth checking into. I know nothing about it, no help here.

Finding a "portage free" river in ON similar to the Allegheny is proving to be a worthy adversary. My friend is still searching so stay tuned.

One place that might be worth a look into is the "Long Reach" of the Rideau River. I have not fished this stretch yet but is on my list. It is 25 miles long and stretches from Burrits Rapids downstream to Manotick. This section supposedly has good muskie fishing and I believe they are all wild fish. There have been several fisheries studies focused on muskie in this stretch of river. I do not know what the camping situation is. I would say the Ottawa is not a "float" style fishing river. It is a very large river. You would be better off going to one spot on the Ottawa and learning that area as opposed to float fishing the river. Good Luck finding a place.

Thanks for the help. I have been searching for months. It seems that a lot of " river trips" are actually a series of interconnected lakes. That would be fine if not for all the portages, and god forbid the wind picks up.

You certainly have your work cut out for you! Ontario is an enormous area with God only knows how many small rivers.

Lots of options. If you are set on going strictly "no portage" then that means larger rivers which tend to be more like lakes with lots of big water, not all that canoe friendly.

I would suggest the Mattawa river.

As I was reading the new issue of MH Magazine, I saw several Ottawa tributaries listed that hold muskies. Those tribs may be something you would want to explore in your quest.
