Seems that some of you are getting cabin fever, can't blame you. Had a great ice fishing season and more to come for the pan fish.
The first in a series, will be an easy one,

Looking west!!! How's that for the first right answer of the year!!!

Mark, that is good, but where west? And don't come back, "on the flowage".....
You’re good, but not good enough,

Entrance into Lake Bastine.

I agree with DPW Guy, looking West Northwest......
Mark Benson

Tiny:
Considering that I knew you were going to start this post, I couldn't help but try that one. In most cases, I haven't seen the flowage in so many years that I can think I am where I am, but is that where you are at in the pictures. That doesn't diminish the memories of that great place!!!
Mark
P.S. Can you imagine if it would have been looking east??? LOL!!!
Looking into Lake Bastine west side of the small island ( nice Muskie Bar too ! ) where Lipperds Use to be ( not sure if spelled the resort correctly ! )
I agree -island where hiawatha resort used to be next to.Island is where opening to Lake Bastine begins. My relatives own the old resort and 3 connecting islands-LOVE it on the TFF!
The Tiny Fisherman
03-10-2011, 02:05 PM
Yep good job, hope Mark didn't influence you to much.
Here's another one and it isn't going to be as easy.

The Tiny Fisherman
03-11-2011, 07:02 AM
Not even close.....Think turtle....
Have a great day,
western side of big island- usually see eagles in big tree
Maybe the Big Island accross from the Dam ? Your right , this one is tough ! Though I know I have taken pictures of the Eagles in these trees ... wish I was there now ~!

how about that nice point south of the bridge that connects the big island with popko's? Angle two is looking back from the southwest????
nice to see the high water too
The Tiny Fisherman
03-15-2011, 07:08 AM
Well it seems way too hard. The spot is on the north side of the Big Island, west of the entrance to Merkle.
The Tiny Fisherman

Not too many guesses so far.
Back to an easy one,

Here's a question on Tiny's Lake 10 picture. Lake 10 is the name on the maps now. Anybody know what the old timer's used to call it?

03-16-2011, 03:22 PM
I'm guessing that is down in Beaver Creek after you leave the big water.
Hot Runr Guy

I don't know where that is, but that's a beautiful picture Tiny.
Thanks, HRG

It is down Beaver Creek, but by the campsite at very end.

My guess is under the power lines looking toward Lake Bastine (off to the left) with the island just visible on the left.
Mark Benson
03-17-2011, 10:23 AM
Tiny:
Seriously, when I said I knew but wasn't saying, I was way off... to be sure I was on the other side of the island. The Beaver Creek one, looked familiar and number 5 is just to the north of picture 4 looking to the N/NW coming out of Beaver Creek, kind of looking toward Rat.
Mark
The Tiny Fisherman
03-17-2011, 11:03 AM
That's not even close. Besides, I've spread these out so everybody gets a chance. So, it could be anywhere, but not there.....
Happy St. Patrick's Day,

03-17-2011, 11:48 AM
is that the area known as the narrows... going towards bonies mound?
The Tiny Fisherman
03-18-2011, 06:12 AM
Sorry, but that is not the spot. This one is so easy that I hate to give any hints.
Have a great weekend,
George
03-19-2011, 05:28 AM
Well my Lake Ten question was kinda like a slow day on the TFF...no bites. When I was a kid the old timers referred to Lake Ten as Bass Lake. I have no idea why.

For those that don't know the flowage maybe this will help.

Mark
Nick Kanauz
03-23-2011, 08:18 PM
Yay...two time in a row to post today...thread seems to be working...knock on wood. That rock looks just like the Big Mama rock in the Big Water toward Beaver Flats. It was really showing last year. I agree with George.
George
03-24-2011, 11:00 AM
Big Mama is where Mark described as south central Beaver Flats. It is visible most of the time. There is another rock, however, that is due north of Big Mama, about half way to the island. That one isn't visible most of the time. On most days the only way you can locate it is by the waves spashing on it. But if it's glass..proceed with caution! We call it George's Rock because even though I knew it was there, I was lining up the next drift and not paying attention and took my lower unit off on it. Hence the name George's Rock. Did you guys know that a new lower unit for a 115 Evinrude is only $1,800? Oye!
The Tiny Fisherman
03-29-2011, 07:58 AM
That's it "Big Mama". The rock George is talking about we call skunk rock, because of the black and white stripes. Just when you think you know where you are and they pop-up on you. There is a rock due east, about two thousand yards of Big Mama, called Knock Rock. This is the one Porky damaged his motor on. There are all sorts of these through out the flowage. I've seen lots of people just flying wide open and then come to a complete stop (Ouch). It amazes me the they don't hit more. Its luck I guess.
Here is the new one,
Hey Tiny, Love your guess where pictures. Is there a map application you could use so us less than than familar people can see these spots on a map?I have only been enjoying the TFF for a few yrs and would like to learn more.

Yes Tim, I realize that the picture is what C-8 used to look like before the storm. Now you can't even see the picnic table due to the downed trees; however, it will come back. Kathy and I always stopped at this site on pontoon rides as it was the last camp site as we headed into 4th of July Slough before heading back to Flambeau Vista! It was truely a beautiful site that was rarely used.
Enough of the sappiness. Please challenge us with another picture. Thanks Tim. Everyone who frequents this site appreciates your efforts to keep us busy before the May opener. 31 days to go!

Good job Mark, your batting zero percent.
Last Saturday we were ice fishing out front and had twenty inches of ice. Looks like we'll be back into winter again. They're saying lots of snow and rain mix this weekend.
Last Sunday, Fluffy and I were sitting out front, wearing shorts and tank tops, grilling, drinking gin and tonic. Only thing missing was Scott, wifey, dogs and their pontoon boat going by. That was nice to have summer like weather for a change.
Keep up the good job,

Hey, Tiny Fisherman: It was 50 years ago (1961) that Earl Tomek (of the now non-existent Tomek's Old Log Inn) took me fishing on TFF and vowed to show me the famous (or, should that be infamous?) "Mattress Island."
But, he never did. This despite my many attempts at bribing him through the years by purchasing numerous bottles of "Kugel."
Naturally I learned the location of "Pump Island" and "Swimmer's Island" and other islands such as that (including" Donut Lake"), but I've never come across the delights presumably offered at "Matress Island."
Could you possibly show a photo of same and then maybe somebody will disclose its location for my own edification.
Thanx!
(Golly! Earl wasn't pulling my leg, was he? Would one fisherman do that to another?)
Hot Runr Guy

With opener one day away, this pretty much concludes the guess that spot.
Tiny, thank you for helping us pass the time until we can return to the TFF.
For me, that's 9 days away!
HRG
1961 was the 2nd year we came up to the flowage. It was also the year my dad hired Earl to take me muskie fishing. I remember getting my stuff ready at about 4:30 am and hearing wolfs howling in the distance. That caused every dog for miles to go nuts. The day dawned dead calm and he decided to try Moose lake instead as he thought it was too quiet to fish the TFF for muskies. We never raised a fish, but we became buddies so to speak. As I grew up and started taking my own trips, there were nights he shut off the outside lights and we shot pool until close to dawn.
My wife even puked one morning while driving back to O'Meara's after a night with Earl and his wife (Elsie I believe).
Anyway Musky Mauler, how old were you in 1961 and where were you staying up there, or did you live up there?
My parents brought up up there twice a year. A week around Memorial Day and a week around Labor Day and except for 1 year at Joe Miller's, we always stayed at O'Meara's.
