The walleye run has just started so you havent missed much. Good catches last week showed this past weekend at the Masters Walleye Circuit event on the Detroit River April 16. Due to high winds day 2 was canceled. The big basket of 43.49lbs took top honors myself and partner Steve Velte finished
7th with a respectable 38.27lbs. Most of the action took place in the Trenton channel using jigs and minnows or plastics.
Prior to the tournament walleye limits were being caught from a number of locations that include, the Roostertail, Joe Louis arena Great Lakes steel and Mud Island. The high winds on Fri stirred Lake St. Clair and mud is now flushing through the whole Detroit River system. With the cold water temps 46-48 degrees it will take a few days before good fishing will return. Hopefully things will work out for this long weekend as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus (Easter) Some excellent fishing is also happening on Lake Erie as trollers use cranks and harnesses to land trophy walleyes.
Perch fishing is hot right now as anglers hit the Colchester area near the mile marker with minnows and perch rigs for limits of the tasty critters.
