The fishing action went from fair on Friday to hot on Saturday. Was out Friday for a half day and found very poor walleye action, but the male smallies were in the shallows so they provided most of our action. One nice eye and a jumbo perch was all we had for the frying pan. Saturday was a much different story as we found aggressive eyes, and nice size ones at that in the shallow wood. With brisk ESE winds blowing, we found the eyes in 3 to 4 feet of water in and around submerged and stickup wood. Active pike were also present as were some early morning smallies. Afternoon hours were spent working nothing but shallow weeds and downed timber and found very good numbers of big gills, jumbo perch and crappies. Around mid afternoon the big smallies decided to come out of hiding and we had a ball catching and releasing the fat footballs. Fish were caught on Reeves weedless jigs tipped with either fatheads or a peice of crawler, but the crawlers by far were the most productive.
