After a warm week... Lake of the Woods is frequently above 60 degrees in the shallow back bays and occasionally touching low 70's in the afternoons. Kakagi (Crow) Lake is mostly low to mid 50's.
Lake Trout - biting OKay to really good for most groups. Today one group caught 11 Lake Trout with most over 6 pounds. Jigging, trolling cowbells, trolling crankbaits and live/dead bait rigs are all having some success. The Lake Trout seem to be scattered all over the lake and water column at present.
Walleye opener was pretty good, groups catching plenty of the bigger eating sized Walleyes. Best so far is about 6 pounds.
Northern Pike are being caught in good numbers and several over 30". A local guide reported the group he took Friday caught 15 over 30" and 2 over 40", in addition to 30 Smallmouth bass.
No one in camp targeting the bass but picking up a few strays while fishing other things... best was a 3 pound Smallie this week.
Crappie finally moved in for spawning about 4 PM this afternoon... so far all males between 10" and 14". Expecting the big females to be coming in during the next few days.
We have 1 two bedroom cabin open this week and next, several the first full week of June, a couple cabins still available for the Muskie opener. Looks like we are in for some pretty good fishing in the weeks ahead.
Regards,
